On 5th October we will set off on a walking pilgrimage to Brentwood Cathedral, the mother church of this diocese and a designated pilgrimage shrine for this Jubilee year. As one of the closest parishes to Brentwood, walking allows us to make this pilgrimage about the journey as well as the destination. What is usually a 15-20 minute drive will be a 4-5 hour walk, going at a comfortable pace for the group. The 7 1/2 mile route is not the most direct, but means we can enjoy some of the local countryside – a little over half the route will be off road.
People of all ages are encouraged to come along, as we hope this will be an opportunity for our parish family to come together, make some new friends, and enjoy being outside. And not just a Sunday afternoon walk, but a pilgrimage, we will begin and end with prayer, and ask God to renew our sense of purpose as his disciples, accompanying each other on the lifelong pilgrimage that leads to heaven.
