Faith & Life

As a parish community, our life centres on the worship of God and the celebration of the Sacraments. Within this section you will find information on what this involves, from our daily and weekly worship, to the special moments that occur at different stages in a person's life.

Our principal act of worship is the Sunday Mass. You can find details of our Mass times, as well as information on what it means to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion.

The life of faith begins with baptism, often in early childhood for children of Catholic families, but it can be at any age. Christian initiation is completed with the reception of Holy Communion and the sacrament of Confirmation.

We are all called to serve God in a particular way, and for many people this includes family life, centred on the sacrament of Marriage. We encourage all people, especially those embarking on adult life, to consider very carefully what their vocation or calling might be – even the possibility of ordination or the religious life.

Our earthly life is a preparation for the life of heaven. On the way, we can experience sickness, and in those moments the church offers particular forms of prayer and sacramental help. The end of this pilgrimage is marked by special forms of prayer known as the funeral rites, and it is a great privilege to help a family grieve and celebrate a person’s life as we commend them to the loving care of God.

If you are not a Catholic, but something has drawn you to our parish and piqued your curiosity, you may at some point find yourself wanting to take things further, and explore the possibility of actually becoming a Catholic. All are welcome and invited to take the next step on this journey of faith.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

This text is an ancient summary of the Catholic Christian faith, as taught by the apostles and professed by those being baptised. We recite either this Creed or the slightly longer Nicene Creed at Mass each week. For a more detailed account of what Catholics believe, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is freely available online.
