Live Streaming

Visit our live streaming portal to watch Mass or another service in progress, to see the schedule of upcoming broadcasts, and to watch recordings.

The live stream is offered primarily for those unable to be at Sunday Mass due to sickness, caring for others, or shift work (which may be essential for society, or essential for someone providing for their family) and thus exempted from the Sunday obligation; in this way we hope to maintain for everyone a sense of belonging to our parish community and enable those at home to participate in our worship. It is also offered to help those unable to attend funerals and weddings e.g. due to long distance.

The live stream can be accessed on any device which is connected to the internet and has a modern web browser – a desktop or laptop computer, tablet, smart phone, or smart TV. Simply click the button above or type the following URL into the browser address bar (and save as a favourite when loaded):

https://stream.seccomgroup.com/channel/st-joseph-upminster

You can also use this shortened URL especially if the text-entry method on your device is fiddly:

is.gd/sjuptv

(remember IS GooD St Josephs UPminster TV)

Smart TVs and streaming devices

Some smart TVs, streaming devices or other devices such as games consoles have a built-in web browser, or one that can be downloaded from an app store. You should be able to enter the website address (URL) above using an on-screen keyboard.

Once you’ve found the live stream page or located a recording of a previous service, for the best experience on your TV you can enter full screen mode by clicking the icon on the bottom right of the video that resembles the corners of a rectangle.

Other streaming devices can display content from a paired device such as a smart phone – for example an Apple TV can display content from an iPhone or iPad.

Alternatively, your device may have a YouTube app, which you can use instead of our custom portal to access the live stream and most recent recordings. Please note that we have no control over any suggested videos that may be presented to you in the app; also YouTube has been known to cut audio when it’s artificial intelligence determines something is under copyright, even when used with permission. Nevertheless it is offered as an alternative means of accessing the livestream. The name of our YouTube channel is StJosephsChurchUpminster (youtube.com/@stjosephschurchupminster).

Other options

You can add ‘smart’ functions including a web browser to any TV with a spare HDMI port. You will also need wifi and a nearby power socket. Various devices are available to do this but at the time of writing the cheapest, most reliable option is the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite, which is available from Amazon and other retailers for c.£35. You will need an Amazon account which you will log in to when you set up the Fire Stick. The web browser is downloaded from the Amazon Fire app store: search for ‘Amazon Silk Browser’. This is probably the easiest way of setting up access to the live stream on a normal television, but you will need wifi to access the internet.
